5 Ways To Keep Your Pets Safe This Fall

With spooky season comes fall, and fall is a great time for outdoor activities with our pets, but it also comes with some hidden dangers. As the leaves start to change and temperatures drop, we need to be extra cautious about our pets' safety.

From the potential for poisonous mushrooms to slippery leaves, there are many hazards for our furry friends out there. Here are 5 ways that you can help keep your pets safe this fall.

1. Watch Out For Mushrooms:

As the weather gets cooler and the leaves start to drop, mushrooms start to appear. While many of these mushrooms are harmless, there are also many varieties that can be toxic to our pets. Keep your pets away from any mushroom they come across, and be sure to remove any mushrooms from your yard that you come across.

2. Avoid Puddles:

During the fall, rain is common, and so are puddles. However, these puddles can contain dangerous chemicals and toxins from things like antifreeze or pesticides that have been washed away. Avoid letting your pets drink from any puddles, and be sure to wipe your pet's paws when they come inside to avoid them from licking their paws.

3. Be Extra Careful On Walks:

The leaves that fall off the trees in the fall can create a slippery surface to walk on, especially if they are wet. This can lead to accidents for both you and your pet. Keep your pet on a leash when walking and avoid areas with piles of leaves if possible.

4. Keep Your Pet Warm:

As the weather cools down, it's important to keep your pet warm, especially if they are a short-haired breed. Invest in a warm coat or sweater for your pet to help keep them warm during their walks. If you have an outdoor pet, make sure their bed is in a sheltered area to keep them out of the cold.

5. Watch For Halloween Hazards:

Halloween is a fun and exciting holiday, but it can also be dangerous for our pets. Keep Halloween decorations and candies out of reach of your pets. Chocolate and sugar-free candies containing xylitol can be especially toxic.

Keeping our pets safe during the fall may require some extra effort, but the reward is worth it. By following these 5 tips, you can help keep your pets safe and healthy during the fall. With a little extra attention and care, you and your furry friend can enjoy all of the great things that fall has to offer, while avoiding the hidden dangers.
